On December 16, 2024, three alumni of the City College of Angeles were recognized by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. for their exceptional performance in the Kurang-kurangan Kapaskuhan Inter-Town Cooking Competition. Jerome Gozum, Archie Patawaran, and Arjay Cabrera received certificates of recognition after impressing judges with their innovative take on the traditional Kapampangan dish, Asadong Matua.
During the ceremony, Mayor Lazatin commended the alumni for their creativity and dedication to showcasing the rich culinary heritage of Pampanga. The three chefs, who presented unique variations of the classic dish, stood out among other competitors, earning high praise for their culinary skills and artistry.
Each of the three alumni was awarded a P10,000 cash incentive in recognition of their achievement. The mayor expressed his pride in their success, emphasizing how their innovation and talent reflect the high standard of education and training at the City College of Angeles. “You have not only represented your alma mater well but have also brought honor to our city through your culinary excellence,” Mayor Lazatin stated during the awarding ceremony.
The Kurang-kurangan Kapaskuhan competition, which celebrates the culinary traditions of Pampanga, provided an excellent platform for local chefs and culinary artists to showcase their skills. Gozum, Patawaran, and Cabrera’s winning dishes highlight the importance of preserving traditional flavors while embracing innovation, a value that was celebrated by the event organizers and participants alike.
Mayor Lazatin also took the opportunity to encourage other young Angeleños to pursue their passions in the culinary arts, noting that the city continues to support initiatives that foster talent and creativity. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing opportunities for local talents to excel in various fields, including food and hospitality.
