On January 20, 2025, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. met with Gender and Development Officer Mina Cabiles and social workers from the City Social Welfare and Development Office to review the status of the city’s Integrated Mental Health Care Program. The meeting, attended by Chief Adviser IC Calaguas, focused on updates and developments regarding the city’s efforts to support mentally-challenged individuals.
The Integrated Mental Health Care Program, launched by the city government, offers free treatment and medications to mentally-challenged individuals, particularly those rescued from the streets. The program is a pioneering initiative that aims to provide comprehensive care and rehabilitation for individuals who are often neglected or abandoned.
According to Cabiles, 91 mentally-challenged individuals are currently under the care of the city, receiving treatment at two facilities: St. Claire Psychiatric Homecare in Bacolor, Pampanga, and Shelter of Goodwill Health Services in Magalang, Pampanga. These individuals are being provided with necessary medical attention and care as part of the city’s commitment to addressing mental health issues.
During the meeting, Mayor Lazatin expressed his continued support for the program, emphasizing the importance of extending help to vulnerable individuals in need of mental health care. He highlighted the need for collaboration between the city government and various institutions to ensure that mentally-challenged individuals receive proper attention and rehabilitation.
In addition to reviewing the progress of the program, Mayor Lazatin also appealed to the public for assistance in locating missing persons. He urged those who may have information about missing individuals to reach out to the Gender and Development Office for coordination. The contact number provided for such inquiries is 0935-211-7513.
The city government’s proactive approach to mental health care underscores its commitment to providing holistic support to all residents, especially those who may be marginalized or in need of special care. Through programs like the Integrated Mental Health Care Program, the city aims to create a more inclusive and supportive community for all.
Mayor Lazatin reaffirmed his dedication to improving public welfare and ensuring that the needs of mentally-challenged individuals are addressed with compassion and professionalism. With the continued support of both the government and the public, the city hopes to expand its efforts and provide lasting solutions for mental health challenges in the community.
