On December 16, 2024, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. continued his tradition of giving back to the community during the holiday season. The mayor dedicated the day to a packed schedule of community support, which included distributing cash incentives and special awards to individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to the city.
In his efforts to uplift the people of Angeles, Mayor Lazatin emphasized the importance of community support, stating, “This season, and always, our goal is to uplift and support our community. Whether it’s through sports, education, or personal achievements, we will continue to give back and make sure every Angeleño feels the love and care they deserve.” His ongoing initiatives are designed to ensure that the spirit of Christmas is felt throughout the city, fostering a sense of unity and care.
As part of his commitment to local sports, Mayor Lazatin has already provided basketball boards and shot clocks to 18 barangays in an effort to encourage the growth and development of sports in the community. This initiative has been warmly received by residents, contributing to a stronger, more active youth culture.
The mayor also supported individuals pursuing excellence in their respective fields by providing financial assistance. Among those recognized were Stephanie Jane Lusung, who received ₱10,000, Princess Sabrina Taño, who was given ₱5,000, and Chaz Feliciano, who also received ₱10,000 for their participation in the 28th Annual World Championships of Performing Arts. These young talents were commended for representing the Philippines on an international stage.
Additionally, Mayor Lazatin supported Armilda Manuela Suarez with ₱15,000 for her exhibit, “Atelier by Mancio Suarez,” further reinforcing his dedication to fostering the arts and culture within the community. Other notable awards included ₱10,000 for Adrian Sampang, one of the Huwarang Mag-aaral ng Gitnang Luzon 2024, and ₱3,000 each to Jan Jorvy Mhil Tayag and JO1 Camille Ann Romero for their exceptional achievements.
Tayag, a resident of Barangay Pulung Cacutud, was recognized for his remarkable performance as one of the top finishers in the October 2024 Veterinarians Licensure Examination. Meanwhile, Romero, a dedicated jail officer, received praise for her courageous actions in discovering illegal drugs hidden in a visitor’s clothing. Both were honored for their commitment to excellence and service.
A significant highlight of the day was the recognition of local schools at the Sinukwan Festival, with Cutud Elementary School receiving ₱40,000 for winning 1st place in the Street Dance Competition, and Gueco Balibago Elementary School being awarded ₱20,000 for their 3rd place finish. These awards are part of Mayor Lazatin’s continued efforts to support the arts, education, and sports in Angeles City, demonstrating his commitment to building a stronger, more resilient community.
