Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. met with the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Chairpersons of Angeles City on January 28, 2025, during their courtesy visit at the Mayor’s Office. The meeting was led by SK Federation President Richard Gaza, who presented the group’s ongoing initiatives and future plans to the mayor.
During the discussion, Mayor Lazatin assured the SK Chairpersons of his unwavering support for their programs and projects. He expressed his commitment to working closely with the youth leaders to help implement initiatives that will benefit the community, particularly the youth sector.
The mayor stressed the importance of addressing the issue of illegal drugs among the youth and encouraged the SK Chairpersons to take a proactive role in educating their peers. Lazatin proposed that the SK Federation organize seminars focusing on preventive education regarding illegal drugs, targeting both in-school and out-of-school youth. The seminars aim to raise awareness and help curb drug-related problems in the community.
In line with his advocacy for youth empowerment, Mayor Lazatin also encouraged President Gaza to establish a special education center for out-of-school youth. He believes that providing alternative educational opportunities is key in steering young people away from negative influences, such as drugs, and helping them pursue better futures.
The mayor reiterated that the city government is fully committed to supporting the SK Federation’s efforts to guide the youth towards positive endeavors. Lazatin emphasized that investing in the youth is crucial for building a safer and more prosperous community for everyone.
