The Angeles City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., began its house-to-house distribution of financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements to bedridden senior citizens and those aged 90-99 on January 14, 2025. In Barangay Ninoy Aquino, 16 bedridden seniors and 16 elderly citizens within the 90-99 age range were the first recipients of the aid.
Mayor Lazatin was joined by City Councilor Edu Pamintuan and Barangay Ninoy Aquino officials, led by Captain John Terry Halili, during the distribution event. The initiative is part of a broader effort to provide support to the elderly in the city. A total of 664 registered bedridden senior citizens and 612 seniors aged 90-99 from all 33 barangays in Angeles City will receive similar assistance in the coming days.
This program offers not only P3,000 in financial aid but also Vitamin C supplements to help boost the immune systems of the elderly. In addition to the cash and supplements, the bedridden elderly and seniors in the 90-99 age group will also benefit from free medical check-ups, laboratory tests, and vaccines, which will be provided by the City Health Office and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
Mayor Lazatin reiterated that the welfare of the elderly, especially those in vulnerable conditions, has always been a top priority of his administration. He emphasized that these initiatives are meant to improve the health and well-being of the city’s senior citizens, ensuring that their needs are met even in the comfort of their homes.
The distribution was organized and led by the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), headed by Eduardo Torres. He noted that the initiative, which started in 2019 when Mayor Lazatin first took office, has been a crucial step in addressing the needs of the elderly in Angeles City. It is under Mayor Lazatin’s leadership that registered seniors have consistently received financial aid and health supplements.
The continuous support for the elderly also includes other services such as free vaccines, further underscoring the city’s commitment to ensuring the health and safety of its senior residents. This comprehensive approach is seen as a model for local government initiatives aimed at addressing the unique needs of the aging population.
The program’s ongoing success highlights Mayor Lazatin’s steadfast commitment to prioritizing the elderly and ensuring they receive the necessary care and assistance. With continued support from the city council and barangay officials, this initiative promises to make a lasting positive impact on the elderly community in Angeles City.
