Under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., the Angeles City Government has begun a house-to-house distribution of financial aid and Vitamin C supplements to bedridden senior citizens and those aged 90-99. On January 14, 2025, 16 bedridden seniors and 16 elderly residents in the 90-99 age group from Barangay Ninoy Aquino were among the first recipients of the assistance.
Mayor Lazatin was joined by members of the Barangay Ninoy Aquino Council, led by Captain John Terry Halili, in overseeing the distribution. The initiative, which will extend to 664 registered bedridden senior citizens and 612 senior citizens aged 90-99 years old across the city’s 33 barangays, reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to supporting its elderly residents.
The beneficiaries will receive P3,000 in financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements to help strengthen their immune systems. In addition to this, the elderly will also have access to free medical check-ups, laboratory tests, and vaccines, all of which are being provided by the City Health Office and Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized the importance of prioritizing the needs of the elderly, particularly those who are bedridden or in the 90-99 age group. He expressed his commitment to ensuring the well-being of these senior citizens, who often face challenges in accessing essential services due to their age and physical condition.
The distribution was organized by the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), led by Eduardo Torres. Torres explained that this initiative began in 2019, after Mayor Lazatin assumed office, with the goal of ensuring that seniors, especially those who are bedridden, receive the support they need. This is the first time that registered seniors have received both financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements under the current administration.
In addition to the cash aid and supplements, the city also provides free vaccines, medical check-ups, and laboratory tests to the elderly, underscoring the city’s commitment to comprehensive healthcare for senior citizens. These efforts are designed to address the health concerns and improve the quality of life for the elderly population.
Mayor Lazatin’s administration has consistently prioritized the welfare of senior citizens, recognizing their vital role in the community. With this ongoing initiative, the city aims to ensure that every elderly resident receives the care, support, and respect they deserve.
