ANGELES CITY – The newly constructed Pampang Public Market, costing ₱400 million, was inaugurated on November 29, 2024, marking a significant step in the city’s development. The ceremony was led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr., with Senator Imee Marcos as the guest of honor. This modern facility stands as a testament to the city’s dedication to enhancing local trade and providing residents with an upgraded shopping experience.
The Pampang Public Market spans an impressive 30,685 square meters and showcases state-of-the-art infrastructure. It features a 2,682-square-meter dry goods section on its ground floor, complete with an expansive food court designed for shopper convenience. This multi-functional space aims to support local entrepreneurs while improving access and safety for the public.
The upper two levels of the three-story structure house a steel parking area with 251 slots, catering to both vendors and customers. An elevator has also been incorporated to ensure accessibility for everyone, making the market user-friendly for those with mobility challenges. The market’s design reflects a modern approach to urban planning, blending practicality with comfort.
A dedicated wing within the market hosts 50 stalls intended for carinderias, further boosting the marketplace’s reputation as a center of commercial activity. This area has been designed to support food vendors, contributing to the area’s economic vibrancy. The project’s completion within 588 days is a remarkable feat, particularly given that it replaces the original market destroyed by fire in 2020.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized the importance of the new market, stating, “This new Pampang Public Market is not just a building; it’s a symbol of our dedication to uplifting our local vendors and ensuring that Angeles City remains a hub of trade and commerce.” His remarks highlighted the significant role this facility would play in strengthening the local economy and community bonds.
Senator Imee Marcos was recognized for her contributions to the city’s growth, including the ₱20 million she allocated for repairs to the Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center. Mayor Lazatin acknowledged her continuous support, noting her commitment to enhancing public service and community welfare.
The inauguration was attended by prominent city officials, including First District Rep. Carmelo ‘Jon’ Lazatin II, Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, and various city councilors. Barangay leaders such as Carlos Dela Cruz of Pampang, Nicanor Soriano of Lourdes Northwest, and Joel Sanchez of Sta. Teresita, as well as market vendors, joined the celebration, showcasing the community’s unity in welcoming the new facility.
