On December 1, 2024, the newly-repaired covered court in Barangay Pandan was officially inaugurated during a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by key local officials. Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel represented Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. at the event, demonstrating the city’s continued commitment to enhancing community facilities and supporting local activities.
The ribbon cutting ceremony was led by Barangay Pandan Captain Cors Alejandrino, who expressed gratitude for the completion of the project. The new facility aims to provide a modern and safer space for community events, sports activities, and other gatherings. The improvements to the covered court mark a significant step forward in supporting the active lifestyle and community spirit in Barangay Pandan.
The event was also attended by prominent figures including Pampanga First District Representative Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II, Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, and City Councilors Crisanto Cortez, Marino Bañola, JC Aguas, along with Mutya Ning Angeles 2024, Allyson Hetland. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort between the local government and community leaders in fostering development and building stronger community ties.
A highlight of the day was the kickoff of the Inter-Street Basketball League in Purok 5A, which added to the festive atmosphere. This league is set to bring people together through friendly competition, promoting teamwork and camaraderie among participants. The league’s launch was an example of how sports can play a vital role in building community relationships and keeping residents engaged.
Mayor Lazatin showed his support for the local community by donating drinking water for the players participating in the basketball league. This gesture further demonstrated the city government’s commitment to ensuring that residents, particularly the youth, have the resources they need to enjoy activities in a healthy and comfortable environment.
Also present during the ceremony were key staff members, including Cong Jon’s Chief-of-Staff Janie Sarmiento and Ron Pineda. Their involvement signified the importance of community projects and the unity among different sectors of local leadership.
